Blue, yellow and black zinc finishes for suitable metal components. Explore the appearance of each and tell us what your job requires.

Supplied blue zinc colour chart showing shadow, midtone and highlight swatches

Blue zinc

A bright silver appearance with a subtle blue tone. A familiar finish for plated fasteners and small steel parts.

Supplied yellow zinc colour chart showing shadow, midtone and highlight swatches

Yellow zinc

A yellow-gold appearance with characteristic iridescence. A distinctive finish for zinc plated components.

Supplied black zinc colour chart showing shadow, midtone and highlight swatches

Black zinc

A dark charcoal-to-black appearance for parts that need a less reflective, darker zinc finish.

These supplied colour charts show each finish under shadow, midtone and highlight reflections. Use them as visual guidance with your enquiry, and confirm the required finish against your coating specification or a physical sample.

Colour alone does not determine corrosion performance. The coating system, component and application all matter. Include any required standard, coating thickness or test requirement so we can review it with you.

What is zinc electroplating?

Zinc electroplating uses an electrical process to deposit a zinc layer onto a suitable metal component. The zinc helps protect the underlying steel against corrosion.

Is this the same as hot-dip galvanising?

The processes are different. Electroplating deposits zinc electrically; hot-dip galvanising immerses steel in molten zinc. Metal-lech’s service described here is zinc electroplating, also called electro-galvanising.

Why do zinc finishes have different colours?

The treatment applied after zinc plating influences the final appearance. Blue, yellow and black describe the visible finish, rather than three different base metals.

Can I choose a finish from a photograph?

A photograph is useful for discussing appearance. For a specified result, send the drawing, coating requirements or a physical sample for review. Colour on screen is only a guide.
